Dessert platters for offices and events

Not everything is a weekly box. If you want something built for an office, an event or a get-together, tell me the occasion and roughly how many people and I will put it together.

What a platter is, and how it differs from a box

The weekly boxes are fixed sizes: six treats or ten, picked from that week’s ten. That works for a household. It does not work for a room of twenty people, where you want something that goes down in the middle of a table and gets picked at.

A platter is built for the headcount instead. It is put together around how many people you are feeding and what the occasion is, rather than being a set size with a set price on a page.

A bespoke sharing platter, Jay's Bakes

Who this is usually for

Offices, mostly. Team meetings, someone’s last day, a birthday in the department, a Friday afternoon that needs something on the table. It also covers christenings, engagements, baby showers and the kind of family get-together where nobody wants to be cutting up a cake.

It is the same baking that goes into the weekly boxes. The difference is the format and the quantity, not the quality.

What I can build

Sharing platters made up around a headcount. Larger runs of the treats that go into the weekly boxes, if you would rather have a lot of one thing than a spread. And celebration cakes built round the occasion, which start at £60. That is the minimum for a made to order cake, and the final price depends on the size and the design.

If you are not sure which of those you want, describe the room and I will tell you what I think works. A table of ten grazing for an afternoon and a sit down of thirty are different problems.

What I need from you

  • 1The date you need it for.
  • 2The occasion, so I can build it round something.
  • 3Roughly how many people you are feeding.

With those three I can tell you what is possible and what it costs. I would rather quote properly against your actual job than put a number on a page that turns out to be wrong for you.

Anything else you know is useful. Whether it is being eaten standing up or sitting down, whether there are allergies in the room, whether it needs to look like something in particular. None of it is required, but all of it makes the answer better.

Timing, honestly

The weekly boxes run to a Thursday cut off for that week’s drop. Bespoke work sits outside that rhythm, so there is no fixed lead time I can promise you on a page.

What I will say is that this is a one man home kitchen, not a production line. The earlier you ask, the better the answer you get. Message me with your date and I will tell you straight whether I can take it on, rather than accepting it and finding out later that I cannot.

Getting it to you

Delivery works the same way as it does for the boxes: priced by road distance from my L9 6AD kitchen, out to 10 miles. You can check a workplace postcode on the home page checker in a couple of seconds, which is worth doing before you plan around it.

Collection is on the Saturday morning between 10am and 12pm if that suits better. For anything larger or on a date outside the usual rhythm, we will sort the handover when I confirm the order.

What actually works for a room

A few things I have learned putting these together. Anything that needs a fork slows a room down, so for a standing crowd the traybakes and the cookie pies do more work than a cheesecake does. A spread of smaller pieces goes further than a few large ones, because people take one, talk, then come back.

And there is always someone who does not like chocolate. Building in a blondie or something fruit led is not a detail, it is the difference between everyone having something and one person standing there politely holding a cup of tea.

If you want the same again

Plenty of offices order once for an occasion and then come back. If you want a repeat of something I have made for you before, just say so and I will pull up what went into it rather than making you describe it again from scratch.

Allergies, and why they matter more for a group

Ordering for a household is one thing. Ordering for a room of people you do not know well is another, and it is worth thirty seconds of asking around before you order.

Everything is baked in one small home kitchen that handles nuts, gluten, dairy and eggs, so I cannot describe anything as free from any allergen and all of it may contain traces of nuts. That is the honest position and it does not change for a bigger order.

Some of what I make also contains alcohol. If that matters for your workplace, or if anyone is avoiding it, say so when you order and I will keep it out. Please read the allergens page before ordering for a group.

Common questions

Do you have a minimum order? For a platter it depends on the job. Tell me the headcount and I will tell you what makes sense.

Can you invoice us? Message me and we will sort the details when I confirm the order.

How far ahead should we ask? As far ahead as you can. It is one kitchen and the weekly drop fills the back half of every week.

Can you match a theme or colours? For a cake, usually yes. Send me the date, the occasion and what you have in mind.
